Remember when the Ducks lost to the Detroit Red Wings in Game 7 of the 2009 Stanley Cup playoffs? Rachel Paris sure does. Ms. Paris is alleging that Anaheim Ducks general manager Bob Murray struck her in the back with a 'high-backed barstool' in a fit of rage following a go-ahead goal by Detroit. Here's the thing, Bob Murray plus two assistants that were with him at the time of the alleged incident, have no idea as to what she's talking about.
Anaheim Calling covered the initial filing of the lawsuit back in March of 2010. Flash forward two-ish years and jury selection begins today at the US District Court located in Detroit, Michigan. According to The Detroit Free Press, Ms. Paris is claiming to have sustained severe injuries (such as torn cartilage in her shoulder and bloody urination) as a result of Murray's actions. Yet, when the incident happened, Ms. Paris declined to have medical treatment. Her lawyer claims that Ms. Paris did not seek medical treatment or report the incident to the police because her boss at the time allegedly told her not to for fear of losing business with the Red Wings.
Since the incident, the Free Press reports that Ms. Paris was terminated from her job for her inability to work. (No word on if she's suing for unlawful termination.) She remains unemployed to this day, and again, from her lawyer, she's lost her house and car in connection with the incident.
I don't want to get sued, so I won't offer my opinion of the case. I will only say that I wish Judge Judy took up the case. I'd like to see her tell Bob Murray, "I'm the boss, applesauce!"
