This Week in Ducks History: September 23rd - September 29th

It's rapid fire Ducks History this week, with some notable birthdays, minor trades, the NHL Premiere in London, Stu Grimson and possibly the most obscure fact that will be featured in this series.

The Ducks opened the 2007-'08 season as defending Stanley Cup champions in London's O2 Arena with a 4-1 loss to the Los Angeles Kings. This was Bobby Ryan's first regular season NHL game and he scored his first NHL goal. Update: With this goal Bobby became only the second player in NHL history to score his first career goal on neutral ice. The first was Keith Jones, then of the Washington Capitals, now of NBC Sports Network, who scored in a 4-1 win over Chicago at Market Square Arena in Indianapolis, IN, Nov. 3, 1992

Ducks related #RandomNHLfacts from @NHLhistoryGirl:

In 1994, 3 #NHLDucks players applied for unemployment because of the lockout: Don McSween, Tom Kurvers and David Williams.

#NHLDucks rookie Patrik Carnback slept so much his nickname was "Flatliner" and he once slept through a major earthquake. #RandomNHLfact

Stu Grimson's first #NHL goal was a deflection off his helmet. #RandomNHLfact (Even though he was with Chicago at the time, it seemed relevant since he had two go ‘rounds with the Ducks including the inaugural season)

Stu Grimson's dad was a Mountie. #RandomNHLfact

Grimson is also a born-again Christian, who now practices Law in Nashville. And of course in 2001, he starred in a PSA in which he sings "The Itsy Bitsy Spider" that has apparently been pulled from You Tube. [Ed. Note: The commercial was played frequently towards the end of this year's SCF. Grimson was a King when they made it. It looks like it was shot by someone that was nearsighted.]
