Ducks History: Once Upon A Time Our Power Play Was Good, Teemu's 1000th NHL Point

What seems to be an old wives tale now, at a few points in time the Anaheim (Mighty) Ducks had a good power play. Much of the success can be attributed to Teemu Selanne, who received is 1000th NHL point this week in 2006.

St. Louis set a Ducks franchise record for the fastest five goals against when Brendan Shanahan, Ian Laperriere, Essa Tikkanen (2) and Kevin Miller all scored within 5:05 of each other on the way to a 7-2 route of the Mighty Ducks in St. Louis.

Feb. 1, 1995
Paul Kariya and Oleg Tvrdovsky become the first Ducks rookies to score shorthanded goals. Those two goals also set the franchise record for most shorties in a single game, but it wasn't enough because Dallas scored two shorthanded goals of their own for the Ducks record of most SHG combined in a game and much more. Mike Modano recorded six points (2-4-6), a record for an individual Ducks opponent as the Stars crushed the Ducks 9-2. And finally, Nine goals against is yet another Duck's record from this game.

Traded C Josef Marha to the Chicago Blackhawks in exchange for future considerations.

Acquired C Kip Miller from the Pittsburgh Penguins in exchange for future considerations.

Set the unfortunate franchise record for most losses in a month (2-10-1) after having been shut out 3-0 against Nashville. It's hard to tell if overtime/shootout losses count toward this record, because they won/tied their only two OT games and there was no shootout in 2001 (AKA the good old days) but if they do, this record was broken in the dreadful month of Nov. 2011 when they went 2-8-3.

Feb. 1, 2001
Teemu Selanne scored a hat trick in the third period of a 4-2 win in Phoenix. It was his second hat trick completely contained in one period as a Duck and only two other players have matched the feat since (Vinny Prospal in 2004 and Andrew Cogliano last year).

Jan. 30, 2003
Acquired D Sandis Ozolinsh and LW/D Lance Ward from the Florida Panthers in exchange for C Matt Cullen, D Pavel Trnka and a fourth round selection in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft.

Jan. 30, 2004
Beat Colorado 4-3 in Teemu's last game against the Ducks. Indicative of his dark, dark year in Colorado, Teemu had two shots and no points in 15:31 on the ice.

Jan. 28, 2006
Tied the franchise record of four power play goals in a game when Joffrey Lupul, Ryan Getzlaf, Corey Perry and Scott Niedermayer scored with the extra man on route to a 6-2 win in Los Angeles.

Jan. 30, 2006
Teemu scored his 1000th NHL point with his second goal of a 4-3 overtime victory over the Kings. Easily one of the top three hockey moments that I've witnessed in person.

Jan. 27, 2008

A franchise-record four Ducks (Getzlaf, Scott Niedermayer, Perry, Chris Pronger) participate in the 56th NHL All-Star Game in Atlanta.

Jan. 28, 2008
Teemu signs a one-year contract and returns to the Anaheim Ducks for the remainder of the 2007-08 season after contemplating retirement.

Jan. 28, 2009
Bobby Ryan set franchise record for longest rookie goal scoring streak with goals in five straight games. He had five goals and one assist over the streak, which was part of a seven game point scoring streak (one game shy of Kariya's record).

Jan. 31, 2010
Acquired LW Jason Blake and G Vesa Toskala from Toronto in exchange for G J.S. Giguere.
