In Tuesday night's 2-1 victory over the Minnesota Wild, Ducks forward Corey Perry was involved in an on ice incident with Wild rookie, Jason Zucker. Perry's check left Zucker knocked out on the ice. Thankfully, Zucker was not seriously injured and able to skate off the ice with some assistance; although, he did not return to the game due to an 'upper body injury'.
Following the hit, Perry was assessed a five minute major penalty for inference, a 10 minute game misconduct and ejection from the game. After the game, Bob McKenzie of TSN reported a telephone hearing for Perry would be taking place the following morning .
Perry took the phone call from Dallas, as the Ducks traveled there after the game. Under the new CBA, a telephone hearing can result in a maximum penalty of a five game suspension. The hearing began at 9:00am PT and ended some time later. Perry attended practice as the 'extra' member of the fourth line. Not a great sign.
Perry suspended 4 games and will be out $115,135.12. (Good thing he hasn't received his mega contract yet?)
Below is the explanation from ROB BLAKE (who speared Perry in the nuts in this video). Just to be clear, Perrs did speak to Shanny during the hearing.
