Future of the Franchise: On The Cusp Of The Playoffs

As the CHL, Elitserien, and NCAA regular seasons wind down, our prospects are seeing their playoff prospects wax and wane.

Bruce Bennett

SWEDEN

William Karlsson, HV71, C

Karlsson is one of the starting forwards on the playoff "Dream Team" of Swedish sportswriter Jonathan Ekeliw.

Season Total: 50 GP, 4 G, 24 A, plus-17, 12 PIM

Max Friberg, Timra IK, F

Pitea eliminated Sundsvall from the Elitserien playoffs, and they will face Friberg's Timra IK next. Friberg discussed it on his twitter on Sunday.

Season total: 55 GP, 8 G, 8 A, minus-10 rating, 12 PIM

Tim Heed, VIK Vasteras HK, D

Season total (Allsvenskan): 33 GP, 5 G, 8 A, even rating, 12 PIMs

CHL

Joseph Cramarossa, Belleville Bulls (OHL), C

Cramarossa's Bulls are slumping at a bad time. Even though they have a fantastic 40-16-8 record, they have lost 4 of their last 5 contests (including Saturday's match against the Barrie Colts). They have four regular season games remaining. If they can't pull it together, we might see Cramarossa in Norfolk sooner than later.

Season total: 66 GP, 18 G, 43 A, plus-18 rating, 87 PIMs

Andrew O'Brien, Rouyn-Noranda Huskies (QMJHL), D

O'Brien had an assist in the Huskies' 8-2 rout of Rimouski Oceanic on Saturday.

Season total: 60 GP, 2 G, 15 A, plus-14 rating, 101 PIMs

Kenton Helgesen, Calgary Hitmen (WHL), D

Helgesen was plus-1 in the Hitmen's 4-3 victory over the Red Deer Rebels on Sunday.

Season total: 51 GP, 0 G, 9 A, plus-8 rating, 96 PIMs

Charlie Sarault, Sarnia Sting, C

Sarault had a secondary assist in the Sting's 4-2 loss to the Guelph Storm on Sunday, and was just signed by the Ducks on Mar. 5.

Season total: 65 GP, 22 G, 82 A, plus-18 rating, 28 PIMs

Kevin Gagne, Rimouski Oceanic, D

Gagne was a minus-3 in the Oceanic's loss to the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies on Saturday.

Season total (Rimouski): 25 GP, 6 G, 27 A, plus-11 rating, 18 PIMs

NCAA

Nic Kerdiles (FR), University of Wisconsin, LW

Kerdiles was credited with a secondary assist in Wisconsin's 3-2 victory over St. Cloud State on Saturday.

Season total: 26 GP, 6 G, 16 A, even rating, 31 PIMs

Kevin Roy (FR), Northeastern University, LW

Roy's Hobey Baker-caliber season has been thwarted by upper body injury, and he was not in the lineup as Boston University throttled Northeastern, 5-0.

Andy Welinski, University of Minnesota-Duluth, D

Welinski scored a goal in UMD's 6-0 rout of the University of Nebraska-Omaha on Saturday.

Season total: 36 GP, 4 G, 13 A, even rating, 20 PIMs

Kevin Lind (JR), University of Notre Dame, D

Lind's Fighting Irish had last weekend off, and will begin a best-of-three quarterfinal CCHA playoff series against Bowling Green this weekend.

Season total: 35 GP, 2 G, 3 A, even rating, 31 PIMs

Josh Manson, Northeastern University, D

The most notable thing about Manson's performance in Northeastern's 5-0 loss to Boston University was his 2 minute diving penalty.

Season total: 33 GP, 3 G, 4 A, even rating, 45 PIMs

Nick Pryor (SR), University of Maine, D/C

As I stated in last week's FoF, a early-season concussion ended Pryor's season. However, his Black Bears tied New Hampshire 4-4 on Saturday. [Ed. Note: Hey, we bet 'em in '99! Go Black Bears! -CK]

GOALTENDERS

John Gibson, Kitchener Rangers (OHL), 1st string goaltender

Gibson made 41 saves on 45 shots in the Rangers' 4-3 loss to the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds.
