Final Score: Admirals 4, Penguins 1
First Period Recap: The Norfolk Admirals scored two goals on their first three shots of the game. Kyle Wilson potted his eighth goal of the season, his third since joining Norfolk, 4:55 into the game. Devante Smith-Pelly started off his multi-point night by earning the assist. A little over two minutes later Chris Wagner put the Admirals up two with his sixth goal of the season, Gabe Guentzel and John Mitchell get the helpers. The Admirals got out-shot 9-8 and killed two penalties and carried their only power play over to the second period.
Second Period Recap: Wilkes-Barre/Scranton scored their only goal of the night on the power play with Alex Grant getting his third goal of the season. Patrick Maroon scored his team leading ninth power play goal of the season, for a total of 18 goal. Kyle Wilson earned his second point of the night with an assist and Sam Vatanen received the secondary assist. With 1:02 left in the period DSP scored his tenth goal of the season. Wilson notched his third point of the night and Mat Clark got the last assist. The Admirals out-shot the Penguins 15-6, went 1 for 3 on the power play, and killed 1 of 2 penalties
Third Period Recap: The final twenty was relatively boring with WBS just trying to stir things up more than trying to score goals. Bobby Farnham had 14 minutes of penalties, Paul Thompson with 10 minutes, and Zach Sill got a 10 minute misconduct for abuse of officials at the end of the game. With how the rule book is worded and how the game sheet is labeled it looks like Sill may have fallen under one of three categories:
(i) Any player who, after being assessed a misconduct penalty, persists
in challenging or disputing the ruling of an official.
(ii) When a player, goalkeeper, Coach or non-playing person uses
obscene, profane or abusive language or gesture directed at any on
or off-ice official or uses the name of any official coupled with any
vociferous remarks, after already being assessed a bench minor
penalty (39.3 (ii)), this Coach or non-playing person is to be
assessed a game misconduct and the situation reported to the
President for further action. When this type of conduct occurs after
the expiration of the game, on or off the ice, the game misconduct
shall be applied without the necessity of having been assessed a
bench minor penalty previously.
(iii) Any player who deliberately applies physical force in any manner
against an official, in any manner attempts to injure an official,
physically demeans, or deliberately applies physical force to an
official solely for the purpose of getting free of such an official during
or immediately following an altercation shall receive a game
misconduct penalty and the guidelines set out in Rule 40 – Physical
Abuse of Officials are to be applied.
Neither team converted a power play and the Admirals were out-shot 10-9. The Penguins finished the night with 56 penalty minutes.
