Matt Beleskey Extended for Two Years

The Ducks' short lived representative for NHL 14 Cover voting is back for two more years. According to Eric Stephens of the Orange County Register, the contract will pay Beleskey $1.3 million in 2013-14 and $1.4 million the following season for a cap hit of $1.35 million, just shy of double his previous price tag.

In 2013, Beleskey put up eight goals - his highest total since tallying 11 in his 2010 rookie season - and 13 points in just 42 games played, while seeing spot duty on the left wing of Ryan Getzlaf and Corey Perry as well as the occasional power play shift. He also added two goals and an assist in seven playoff games this season.

Of course, It's nothing to distract from the bombshell of Friday's Bobby Ryan trade, just another reasonable contract for a reasonably good player, very much in line with what General Manager, Bob Murray did on the Ben Lovejoy and Saku Koivu deals.

Presumably, Murray's focus now shifts to re-signing Kyle Palmieri, the Ducks' lone remaining RFA, and maybe, just maybe finding someone to fill that 2C role and the cap space left by the departing Bobby Ryan.
