The Anaheim Ducks have signed defenseman Sami Vatanen to a four-year contract extension.
Vatanen’s contract is worth $4.875 million per season and will see him earn a total of $19.5 million over the four years.
The year-by-year breakdown is as follows, according to Eric Stephens of the OC Register:
2016-19: $5 million.
2019-2020: $4.5 million.
Vatanen, 25, is coming off a strong season where he set career highs in games played (71), assists (29) and points (38).
He was scheduled to become a restricted free agent on July 1st but that will obviously no longer be the case.
I will share more in-depth thoughts in a post to come but I like this deal and am very happy Vatanen will be staying put.
Time to get Hampus Lindholm extended, Bob.
