According to multiple reports the Buffalo Sabres and Anaheim Ducks have engaged in serious trade talks regarding defenseman Cam Fowler.

Mike Harrington of the Buffalo News tweeted the two sides are “talking heavily on Fowler” and that they will talk again Friday morning.

TSN’s Bob McKenzie confirmed the Sabres are after Fowler and also noted a number of teams are interested in the 24-year-old blue liner.

The Sabres have made it no secret that they’d like to acquire a left-handed defenseman to play in their top-4 so it makes sense that they have interest in Fowler.

Via the Buffalo News: “If somebody offers us a top-end, young, left-shot” defenseman “and they demand our eighth overall pick and we feel it makes us better, we’ll do the trade.”

Fowler’s underlying numbers have been somewhat mediocre in recent years but he is mobile, can chew up a ton of minutes and has averaged 35 points per 82 games throughout his career. Those types of players rarely become available - especially while carrying a team-friendly cap hit - so it’s no surprise there is a big market for Fowler.

McKenzie reported that Fowler could be moved prior to tomorrow night’s draft. We’ll keep our eyes on this one.
