Ducks Cut Four Skaters

A couple of big names who were thought to have a chance at cracking the roster are among them.

It looks like 4 players are on the move, with a couple more on the way in the next day or two. The roster currently sits at 15 forwards, nine defensemen, and three goaltenders. Below is the current roster.

Notable Moves

Jacob Larsson: The 2015 1st round pick, who was expected to crack the opening night line-up due injuries to core defesemen Hampus Lindholm, and Sami Vatanen.

Jaycob Megna: Looks like the “strong” opening night roster will start Jaycob Megna who re-signed in the off-season for a 2 year contract of $1.3 million.

Giovanni Fiore: Recent free agent signing from the QMJHL who had a strong showing in preseason play and showed some spark on the top line. With 4 games under his belt with 1 goal, and 1 assist and a -1 rating. Fiore had a relatively good showing and was hopeful to make the opening night roster. Which is why it’s a bit of a surprise that he was sent down to San Diego.

My guess is within the first month of play Fiore will be back up with the big boys pending injuries, but we will always look at Randy Carlyle’s image of young players regardless of talent. Randy usually tends to respect veteran players over younger talent.

UPDATE: Mike Coppinger of the LA Times is reporting that the remaining moves will be Lindholm, Vatanen, and Ryan Kesler to IR with goaltender Reto Berra being the final cut.
