The Anaheim Ducks fell to the Los Angeles Kings 4-3 in overtime last night. Based on the score, you would have thought the Ducks were at full strength. As you can see below, Dimitri Filipovic posted our lineup below:
Let’s discuss that first line. We have Derek Grant. I repeat, we have Derek Grant on the first line going against one of the best centers in the league—Anze Kopitar. In all seriousness, Derek Grant played well last night. He was extremely physical and created multiple scoring chances. In fact, Grant extended his point streak to 5 games with his 9th point in 15 games with Anaheim. Bargain Bob scored again with another 99 cent special. Overall the Ducks took too many stupid penalties towards the end of the game which most likely caused the epic collapse. Obviously playing 4 bottom role playing forwards in our top 2 lines isn’t the reason why we lost.
Best & Worst:
Chris Wagner - He played amazing last night and was all over the rink putting pressure in the offensive zone. In fact, Wagner was able to earn us not 1, not 2, but 3 penalties for Anaheim. Of course Anaheim and their power play this year are at the bottom of the league in conversions.
Derek Grant - Derek Grant deserves more credit. The fact that he is able to put up points and actually help this team earn points is a huge statement. He had doubled his career points total since joining the Ducks.
Ryan Miller - Ryan Miller, what can I say? Really what can’t I say? If it wasn’t for Miller, we wouldn’t have made it into OT to begin with. He made the save of the game against Tyler Tiffoli. Even though he gave up the OT goal, it wasn’t his fault since he was going up against a 3 v 1.
Anaheim Ducks OT -
Interesting stat: Since the NHL introduced 3v3 OT in the 2015-16 season, the Ducks have had 19 games settled in that extra session. They've won just 7 of them.— USA Best Kyle (@LCH_Kyle) November 8, 2017
Anaheim Ducks Epic Collapse -
Injuries - Anaheim went down with two injuries last night. This is getting absolutely ridiculous. I feel like I am writing an article every week about how another player ends up on IR. Anaheim lost John Gibson last night after a rocket of a shot hit him in the mind. Anaheim also lost Ondrej Kase to an unnecessary hit. What makes that hit a lot worse is that Kurtis MacDermid has done this multiple times and has left a bitter taste in my mouth. See Below.
Kurtis MacDermid was today suspended twelve (12) games for this illegal check to the head on Matt Bailey in the AHL. pic.twitter.com/no08SOlCVj— Robert Söderlind (@HockeyWebCast) December 29, 2015
3 Stars of the Game:
3. Ryan Miller - If it wasn’t for Ryan Miller coming in to replace the injured John Gibson, we wouldn’t have earned that loser point. He made the save of the game at the end of regulation.
2. Chris Wagner - He played an amazing overall game earning Anaheim 6 minutes of Power Play time and finished his hits while playing a larger role than he is used to.
1. Alex Iafallo - This guy played extremely well for Los Angeles earning 2 assists on the night. He was all over the ice.
Does Kurtis Macdermid deserve a suspension? If so, how long?
