Ducks captain Ryan Getzlaf has been fined $10,000 for use of an “inappropriate remark” to another on-ice participant during Game 4.

The fine is the maximum allowable under the current Collective Bargaining Agreement. The money will go to the Players Emergency Assistance Fund.

Many believe that the incident was one that made brief appearance on television when Getzlaf lashed out at an official, appearing to call him a “f-ing c***sucker”. The Ducks star lost his composure after two apparent missed penalty calls against the Predators that likely contributed to Nashville’s late tying goal in the 3rd period.

Andrew Shaw, playing for the Chicago Blackhawks in the 2016 playoffs, set a precedent for this type of incident when he uttered a homophobic slur at another player in Game 4 of their first round series against the St. Louis Blues. The league fined him $5,000 and suspended him for one game for the incident.

The official league statement on the fine to Getzlaf is below.
