Anaheim Ducks Weekly Rankings Feb 4th-Feb 9th: Mmmmm Donuts

New, comments

A complete ranking of a very delicious treat. I guess I rank the Ducks also

For those that have missed this segment, this is a weekly series on Anaheim Calling to take a look at how various players on the team have fared. I will arbitrarily rank a random topic along on a scale of 1 to 5 stars and place different Ducks within the categories based on their performance over the past week.

My reasoning for the rating of the Ducks will be based on stats, results, and probably some of my bias. My reasoning for the rating of the random topic will be completely biased #dealwithit. I will elaborate more on some players than others. I expect everyone to probably disagree with me on both topics and all of my takes will be outed. If there is something you would like me to rank please feel free to leave it in the comments. On to the fun!

The games included in the ratings for this week are Feb 5th against the Maple Leafs, Feb 6th against the Sabres, and Feb 9th against the Oilers.

At the suggestion of loyal listener to the pod, Georgie_Con, I am going to rank Donuts. These very delicious treats are something I absolutely love and consider myself somewhat of an aficionado on. To give you an idea of my love for these treats, we will not be having a cake at our wedding, instead we will be having donuts! Like past weeks, these rankings are 100% correct and no one can tell me otherwise.

I mentioned this in the past weeks, but a quick housekeeping note: I have decided for ease of research to start using Naturalstattrick for the skaters stats. As a result I will be using SCF% and HDCF% instead of xGF%. In theory, SCF% and HDCF% should tell us a similar story as xGF%.

5 Stars: Chocolate Bars

Chocolate Bars are without a doubt the best type of Donut. They combine that doughy goodness along with the sweet sweet taste of chocolate. Even though a regular chocolate donut is similar to a chocolate bar, the chocolate bar is far superior due to the shape. It is so much easier to eat and hold.

Rickard Rakell - Ryan Getzlaf - Corey Perry - “Guess who’s back, back again, RPG’s back, tell a friend, Guess who’s back, guess who’s back, Guess who’s back, guess who’s back” (To the tune of Without Me by Eminem) This line’s production this week was insane. Corey Perry had 2 Goals, 2 Primary Assists, and 2 Secondary Assists for 6 points, Getzlaf had a Goal and 3 Primary Assists for 4 points, and Rakell had 3 Goals and 1 Primary Assist for 4 points. The Ducks scored 11 goals on the week and these three were responsible for 6 of these 11. On top of this at 5v5 they were on the ice for 5 goals for and 0 goals against, which is quite impressive when you factor in that the Leafs scored 7 goals against the Ducks on Monday.

Josh Manson - Hampus Lindholm - This pairing is just so good. Both of them had 2 points in the 3 games this week (Lindholm 1G, 1 Primary Assist, Manson 1 Primary Assist, 1 Secondary Assist). On top of this, this pair was around 60% CF%, 60% SCF%, and nearly 70% HDCF%, while going up against the other teams top line.

Ryan O’Reilly - Now I know this is unconventional because he isn’t even on the Ducks, but O’Reilly essentially scored a goal for the Ducks this week. He had a real hard clear from the front of the net that caught Robin Lehners stick and then went water bottle on the goal.

John Gibson - Gibson was back to doing John Gibson things against the Oilers on Friday. He posted a 1.78 GSAA in this game and based on my criteria earlier in the season won the Ducks 2 points in this game.

4 Stars: Plain Glazed Donut

The plain glazed donut is an absolute classic. No matter what type of donut shop you go to, you know they will have a plain glazed donut. You also know it is going to be delicious. By far the best plain glazed donut is a fresh and hot one from Krispy Kreme!

Nick Ritchie - Adam Henrique - Ondrej Kase - This line was very very good this week. Kase had 2 Goals and a Primary Assist for 3 goals, Henrique had a goal, and Ritchie had a Secondary Assist. All three of these players were also around 60% in CF% and SCF%. The only blemishes on their week is they were slightly below 50% in HDCF% and were only on the ice for 1 GF and 1 GA at 5v5.

3 Stars: Cake Donuts & Apple Fritters

These two are the old reliables of the group. They are not the best ever but they are solid choices.

Cam Fowler - Kevin Bieksa - This D pair this week was alright. They were not fantastic, but also were not terrible. They were right at 50% in CF%, above 50% in SCF%, and below 50% in HDCF%. Fowler was on the ice for 2 GF and 0 GA and Bieksa was on the ice for 1 GF and 1 GA at 5v5.

2 Stars: Old Fashioneds

Now I do not mind Old Fashioned donuts, but they are nowhere close to my favorite. I would not deny one if it was given to me, but I never seek them out. The main reason is the consistency. They have a bit of a different feel than a regular donut that has never sat quite right with me.

Andrew Cogliano - Ryan Kesler - Jakob Silfverberg - On a whole this line had a rough week. These three as a whole were slightly below 50% in CF%, SCF%, and HDCF%, and were also on the ice for only 2 GF and 4 GA at 5v5 in the 4 games this week. I was tempted to give them a 1 star performance, but they did have a good game against the Oilers on Friday. This line did a decent job keeping McDavid in check.

Chris Wagner - Antoine Vermette - J.T. Brown - This line was not fantastic this week. As a whole all three were hovering around 50% in all three shot based categories, but what brings them down to two stars is their GF%. This line was on the ice for 0 GF and 2 GA against at 5v5. I am a big fan of rolling 4 lines, but on that same note the 4th line needs to be able to hold their own. Allowing 2 goals in 3 games in 4th line minutes is not exactly holding their own.

Ryan Miller - Based on the score line you would expect Miller to be a 1 star goalie, but based on GSAA he was only slightly below average at -0.71 GSAA. We had been spoiled by Miller being fantastic earlier in the season and it seems like he has slightly regressed back to the mean.

1 Star: Jelly Filled Donuts

Jelly filled donuts are gross. Why would you ruin an amazing treat by putting something like raspberry jelly inside of it. People who like these are monsters (Yes I am looking at you!)

Francois Beauchemin - Brandon Montour - The speed or lackthereof of Beauchemin was really exposed this week. Beauchemin was near the bottom of the team in CF%, SCF%, and HDCF% and Montour was not that far behind him. In addition to this, Beauchemin was on the ice for 4 GA and 0 GF and Montour was on the ice for 5 GA and 1 GF. It was not a good week for these two.

Unranked: Cronuts

Cronuts are absolutely amazing and delicious, but it would feel so wrong to put them on this list. Their consistency is just too different from a regular donut. If you have not had a cronut before you need to have one. It will change your life.
