Olympic Hockey Open Thread: USA vs Finland

The US Women take on one of the best goalies in the world in Noora Raty in their semifinal matchup

The US women may have had a heartbreaking loss to Canada this past week, but that did not stop them from claiming second in Group A and automatically advancing into the semifinals. The downside of that loss is they have to play Finland and Noora Raty instead of the Olympic Athletes from Russia.

If you have not been watching this tournament or ones in the past, Noora Raty is one of the few goalies that has the ability to steal a game by herself. On top of that the rest of the Finnish team is no joke. The US and Finland met in the first group stage game and even though the US won 3-1 it was a hard fought game with the US having to pot an empty netter in the dying minutes to seal it. Finland actually entered the first intermission with a 1-0 lead.

Needless to say this is a massive game and Finland cannot, and should not, be taken lightly by the US women. The winner of this game advances to the Final to play the winner of Canada and the Olympic Athletes from Russia. I think I speak for everyone when I say I hope the US and Canada win so we can get a round 2 of the best rivalry in all of hockey right now.

If you are watching with a big group of people or by yourself, sing it at the top of your lungs during the game. I know I will be.
