The Anaheim Ducks announced today that they will not be renewing Assistant Coach Trent Yawney’s contract.

Yawney served as one of the Ducks assistant coaches for 4 seasons running the defensive units as well as the penalty kill.

He previously served as Head Coach of the Norfolk Admirals, then the Ducks AHL affiliate. He also spent one season as the Chicago Blackhawks Head Coach during the 2005-2006 season and as an assistant coach for the San Jose Sharks from 2008-2011.

He had two stints with the Ducks before his most recent role as a professional scout in 2007-2008 and in 2011-2012.

Among the potential replacements for Yawney could be Dallas Eakins, current head coach of the San Diego Gulls. Eakins is familiar with a good portion of the current defensive corps including Brandon Montour and Marcus Pettersson, in addition to the potential blueline youngsters looking to make the team next season in Jacob Larsson and Andy Welinski.
