The Push For the Playoffs - April 4th, 2018

A breakdown of how the Ducks can clinch a playoff spot on Wednesday, April 4th

NHL: Colorado Avalanche at Anaheim Ducks Gary A. Vasquez-USA TODAY Sports

With today being one of the few days during this final week of games that the Ducks, Kings, Blues, and Avs all are idle, let’s take a look at the current standings and what it will take for the Ducks to clinch a playoff spot on Wednesday, April 4th, 2018.

3rd in the Pacific - Los Angeles Kings 80 GP 96 PTS 42 ROW

1st Wild Card - Anaheim Ducks 79 GP 95 PTS 37 ROW

2nd Wild Card - Colorado Avalanche 80 GP 93 PTS 40 ROW

1st Team Out - St. Louis Blues 79 GP 92 PTS 40 ROW

Clinching Scenario For Wednesday, April 4th:

  • A St. Louis Blues’ loss in any fashion to the Chicago Blackhawks and a Ducks win against the Minnesota Wild.

With a Blues loss, the maximum points they can have going into their final game of the season against the Avs is 95 points. The Avalanche at maximum will also be at 95 points going into this game. One of these two teams will lose this game and possibly get 1 point out of this game, leaving that team at 96 points. The Ducks, with a win on Wednesday, would at worst finish the season with 97 points.
