Winnipeg Claims Luca Sbisa

The Ducks yesterday signed Luca Sbisa to a one year, one way deal worth 750k, in a move that was certainly aimed to help the struggling San Diego Gulls, with Sbisa being put on waivers right away.

I am not sure anyone could have predicted Sbisa being claimed by a NHL team, but as Elliotte Friedman reported below, Sbisa was claimed by the Winnipeg Jets. The Jets made this move due to their blueline being in shambles after trading away Jacob Trouba in the offseason along with the uncertainty that is the Dustin Byfuglien situation.

This does not mean that a return to the Ducks organization is completely out of the question. Winnipeg, by claiming him off of waivers, must have him on their NHL roster. If they no longer want to utilize a roster spot on him, they would need to place him on waivers, and if he clears them, the Ducks would have the ability to take him back and send him to the Gulls.

For now though, Luca Sbisa is a Winnipeg Jet.
