Hey, it’s going to be ok, Ducks fans

Now, slowly back away from the panic button

Look, I get it, seeing your team lose (especially after squandering multi-goal leads) is never fun nor an easy pill to swallow. Well, after seeing some posts/comments from Ducks fans and bloggers out in the Ducksverse already calling for coach Dallas Eakins head, I’m simply here to tell yous to pump yer brakes. I know, I far in the month of November, the Ducks are 3-5-4 where they currently find themselves at .500 with a record of 11-11-4. Today is Thanksgiving, many analysts and pundits see where teams are at and determine who are promising, who are middle-of-the-road, and who should maybe start thinking of next season (although that’s more thoroughly analyzed at All-Star Break).

As I just mentioned, there are some who already want Eakins gone which honestly, is just plain absurd. If you were to look at how the team performed in the previous two seasons where then-coach Randy Carlyle had them playing a system that was suited for 2007 and compare it to this season under a modern day system, the contrast is night and day. In 26 games this season, the fancy squiggles per Natural Stat Trick (5v5) under Dallas Eakins are as follows:

CF% 47.23% / SF% 47.74% / GF% 51.92% / SCF% 49.27% / HDCF% 50.56%

At the 1/4 mark during the 2018/2019 under Randy Carlyle, Anaheim’s record was 11-10-5 as well as these:

CF% 44.57 / SF% 43.10% / GF% 47.95% / SCF% 42.20% / HDCF% 41.19%

I don’t know about you, but it appears that Anaheim have improved this year, and I’m sure you’re all flipping out about my usage of advanced stats, but it’s also apparent out on the ice; the Ducks are playing high event and much more exciting hockey - that’s using the eye test. Just this past Monday, they blanked the New York Islanders who are one the of hottest teams in the league at home in Anaheim. Their passes have become quicker, the youngsters can skate with other team’s opponents, they’re being allowed to use their creativity in plays by a coach who cares about the player as a person first before the player as a player. The team is currently going through a re-tool and though I personally don’t see them winning the Cup, I still believe they can make the postseason. If they don’t, then they don’t. That’s not the main goal this season.

As long as they continue to show promise and improvement, as long as they’re exciting and fun, who cares? Stop stressing, stop losing sleep. Grab the calm and bring it down, sit back, and trust the process. If not, well then just enjoy eating all the Thanksgiving food followed by your imminent coma.

Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!
