Just over 14 minutes into the first period of Monday night’s home opener between the Anaheim Ducks and Minnesota Wild, Wild defender Greg Pateryn delivered this cross-check to Sonny Milano’s face:

The play did not result in a penalty, but a review by the NHL’s Department of Player Safety assessed Pateryn a $5,000 fine for the illegal cross-check. The amount of the fine is the maximum amount allowed under the CBA and will go to the Players’ Emergency Assistance Fund.
