Earlier this week, the Anaheim Ducks announced that San Diego Gulls head coach Joel Bouchard wouldn't be returning to the organization next season. Gulls assistant coaches Daniel Jacob and Max Talbot were also let go.
"This was a tough year for everyone and we feel a clean slate is needed in San Diego," Ducks general manager Pat Verbeek said in a statement. "These are extremely difficult decisions, but we are committed to returning to our winning ways in San Diego for our great fans. We wish Joel, Daniel and Max the best of luck in the future."
Bouchard became the head coach prior to the 2021-22 season and led the Gulls to a 28-33 season this year, which was only good enough for seventh place in the Pacific Division of the AHL. A losing record isn't something San Diego has been used to, as they finished the 2020-21 regular season with a 26-17 record after winning 30 games in the 2019-2020 season.
This year in the postseason, the Gulls lost to the Ontario Reign in the first round.
