Per the above report, outlets are speculating that the Ducks are closing a deal with defenseman Paul Mara.

Still no confirmation on this, but the Ducks could be waiting for the dust to settle on Bobby Ryan’s signing. Paul Mara is far from what he was with the Coyotes pre and post lockout. He’s coming off a 42 game, 30 shot, 0 goal, 8 assist, -16, ending in shoulder surgery performance with Montreal’s blueline.
He may be had at an affordable price, but a veteran like Mara probably hasn't been humbled to the point of a two-way contract or a tryout. And if his offense is truly gone, then he might be used as a physical third-pairing defenseman, and thus become the kind of one-way contract that just complicates the corps.
