Anaheim Ducks acquire G Jonathan Bernier

The Anaheim Ducks have finally made a move by acquiring goaltender Jonathan Bernier (8/7/88) from the Toronto Maple Leafs in exchange for a conditional 2017 draft choice.

Bernier is no stranger to Southern California hockey as he was selected by Los Angeles in the first round (11th overall pick) of the 2006 NHL Draft. His NHL career debut was against your’s truly, the Anaheim Ducks in London, England on September 29th, 2007, where he earned a 4-1 win.

The 6-0, 185-pound Quebec native posted an 88-88-23 record with 12 shutouts with an overall 2.67 GAA and .915 SV% throughout 213 career NHL games. He was acquired by Toronto from LA in the summer of 2013 in exchange for Ben Scrivens, Matt Frattin, and a 2nd round pick in the 2015 NHL Draft.

Last season, he went 12-21-3 with a career-high 3 shutouts, a 2.88 GAA and .908 SV% in 38 games wearing the Maple Leafs sweater.

Funnily enough, you can almost consider that the Ducks flipped Frederik Andersen for Jonathan Bernier. The trade that sent Andersen to Toronto in June signaled the end of Bernier’s chance as Toronto’s starter.
