Ducks re-sign goaltender Anthony Stolarz to two-year contract

On Wednesday, the Anaheim Ducks re-signed goaltender Anthony Stolarz to a two-year contract, worth $950,000 per year. The 26-year-old is on the last year of a two-year deal, with a cap hit of $750,000.

A New Jersey native, Stolarz was drafted by the Philadelphia Flyers in the second round (45th overall) of the 2012 NHL Entry Draft. He largely played for the Lehigh Valley Phantoms of the AHL while with the Flyers organization, appearing in 19 NHL games between 2017 and 2019. Approaching the 2019 trade deadline, he was dealt to the Edmonton Oilers in exchange for goaltender Cam Talbot. During free agency in 2019, Stolarz signed a two-year contract with the Ducks.

In 39 AHL games with the San Diego Gulls last season, Stolarz went 21-12-6, tying a personal best in wins and setting a new AHL career-high save percentage (.922). He also represented the Gulls at the AHL All-Star Classic, he second appearance at the event (2015-16, 2019-20).

He has two career NHL shutouts, both with the Flyers, and three AHL shutouts, all with the Phantoms. In 26 total NHL games between Philadelphia, Edmonton and Anaheim, the 6-foot-6 goaltender has a 6-7-4 record, 2.99 goals against average and .910 save percentage.

Because every team is required to carry three goaltenders during the 2021 season, Stolarz is expected to be a taxi squad goaltender for the Ducks and was placed on waivers this morning for purposes of reassigning him.
