ARTHUR:
The young Ducks took penalty after penalty in their opening contest for the Young Stars tournament, and you could argue that the refs were trying to teach these kids about how the pro game is played. Ultimately, though, some sloppiness and unfamiliarity is to be expected when this extremely young prospects squad is compared to a team icing AHL players. That won’t change today.
If Mark Mitera, who played for Calgary’s AHL affiliate in Abbotsford last year, recognizes more than five faces across the red line, the Ducks are in trouble. Well, he’ll recognize a lot more than five, more like a dozen. It’s like these teams don’t understand the term “rookie.”
The bright spot (if you're looking for one) is that you will probably get a look at Seal Beach native Ducks fan and Flames prospect Mitch Wahl. Add that to the Ducks' incredible crop this year, and it should be another good game…talent-wise, that is– we could do with a better result.
